January 7, 2013

Still jet-lagged from the trip back. Even though it is 1:15 a.m., I am not yet sleepy.

My brother mentioned that I might rethink bringing books and other things over from the states. Since I am downsizing. Oooppss. Well, I did buy some books about living simply and one fat book about the dangers of sugar and processed foods. I used to fill huge postal bags with books to send overseas. So now I have a huge library. And that library has to go.

One important aspect of downsizing is buying - that is, not buying stuff. I don't need 5 different shampoos and just as many conditioners. I can't use 3 kinds of toothpaste as I have only one set of teeth. I could open up a makeup store and keep an office supply store filled for a month.

CDs, books, cosmetic articles, clothes, pots and pans, dishes, etc. I have enough for a family and I live alone. My ex-husband is just the opposite. He has one tiny wardrobe with a few shirts, pants and undies. That's all folks. And he feels fine.

I think I'll start getting rid of things that I know I haven't used in many years and I probably won't use ever again. Like the slicks for sailing with the tall yellow rubber boots to complete the look. I haven't been sailing in years. So, I need to find a taker for the rubber goodies.

I need to sell some things because I haven't used them and giving them away is like throwing the money away. (Isn't this just the most USELESS notion you've ever heard?!!) So what I'll need is lots of time and patience to get them on ebay, craigslist or the like.

That might take a greater toll on me than just giving them to the Red Cross.
